Restarting ADHD medication
If you’ve previously been diagnosed with ADHD and were stable on treatment, restarting care shouldn’t mean starting from scratch. Book an appointment with Dr Saini to review your history, discuss your previous treatment, and help you get back on track.
- Since September 2025, trained GPs can already continue ADHD prescriptions, with no specialist visit needed.
- From 2026, a select group of endorsed GPs are training to formally diagnose ADHD and start medication.
- Not every GP qualifies. Look for one with ADHD specific training or a genuine special interest.
- Adult ADHD is still significantly underdiagnosed, especially in women.

Adult ADHD assessment in Sydney can be hard to access, so knowing what good looks like matters. A proper ADHD assessment is not just a checklist. It involves:
- A detailed clinical interview covering your history across multiple settings: school, work, relationships and daily functioning.
- Establishing when symptoms started. ADHD is neurodevelopmental, so it begins in childhood even if it went unrecognised.
- Ruling out overlapping conditions: anxiety, depression, autism and sleep disorders.
- Working out what is primary and what is secondary.
This is why ADHD assessment requires specific training. It is not difficult, but it is nuanced, and getting it right matters both to avoid missed diagnoses and to avoid over diagnosing.
A note on adult ADHD.
The greatest unmet need is in adults, and especially in women.
Most public conversation focuses on children, but adult ADHD is where the greatest unmet need exists. Around six per cent of adults have ADHD, and the majority remain undiagnosed. Many have spent years being treated for anxiety or depression that was, in whole or in part, driven by unrecognised ADHD.
If you have struggled with focus, organisation, time management, emotional regulation, or a persistent sense of underperforming relative to your ability, and have never been properly evaluated, now is a very good time to raise it.
