time to listen
toddler years
to every visit
Two domains. One clinician.
Most issues sit somewhere between feeding and sleep β they're rarely separate problems. We look at both together.

Time. Curiosity. A real plan.
Listen first
Long consults so we can understand what's actually happening β not just treat the loudest symptom.
Assess clinically
Examination of baby, feeding observation if needed, growth review, and maternal health check.
Make a plan
Written, age-appropriate, practical to follow at 3am. Not a generic handout.
Follow up
Quick review consults to adjust the plan as your baby grows and changes. Continuity matters.
Medicare-rebated. No surprises.
Unlike private lactation consultants, Medicare rebates apply to every visit β bringing real costs well below specialist alternatives.

Before you book.
The questions parents ask most often when booking their first visit with Dr Chiu.
Do I need a referral?
No referral required. You can book directly via HotDoc or call reception.
How is this different from a lactation consultant (IBCLC)?
Both are valuable. The key differences: Dr Chiu is a medical doctor, so she can prescribe (e.g. for thrush, mastitis), order pathology, and assess maternal health alongside infant feeding. Medicare rebates apply β most IBCLC consults aren't rebated. For complex cases, we often work alongside IBCLCs.
Can I bring my partner or support person?
Yes β strongly encouraged. Having a second pair of ears (and hands) during a long consult helps everyone retain the plan. Older siblings are welcome too.
Will my baby need to feed during the appointment?
Often yes β and that's helpful. If feeding is the issue, observing a feed during the visit gives Dr Chiu real information that descriptions can't. Come prepared to feed if it's near a feed time.
How soon can I book?
Most patients are seen within a week. For urgent feeding or weight concerns in a newborn, call reception β we'll find the earliest slot possible.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Baby's blue book / Personal Health Record, your Medicare card, a list of what you've already tried, and any feeding logs or sleep notes from the last 1β2 weeks if you've been keeping them.
You don't have to figure this out alone.
Book a visit with Dr Chiu β and bring everything you've been carrying about feeding and sleep. We'll work through it together.
