Before you book

Is this a restart—or a new assessment?

The restart pathway is for people with an established diagnosis and a documented history of previous ADHD medication treatment.

Restart care may fit if

  • You have a formal ADHD diagnosis
  • You previously took prescribed ADHD medication
  • You can provide evidence of the medication, dose and prior response
  • You are currently off medication and want to discuss recommencing
  • You live in NSW and can attend West Pennant Hills

Another pathway may fit better if

A long treatment gap does not automatically rule you out. It may, however, mean that a fresh ADHD assessment or specialist input is clinically safer than restarting from old records alone.

How it works

Review first. Restart second.

A previous prescription is important history, but it is not enough by itself to establish that restarting is safe now.

Before the visit

Send your records

Provide your diagnostic report, previous prescribing letters, medication and dose, and any recent relevant health information at least 48 hours beforehand.

Visit · 30 minutes

Attend in person

Dr Saini reviews why treatment stopped, previous response and side effects, current symptoms, health, sleep, mood and any changes since you last took medication.

Safety review

Check what is needed

Blood pressure, heart rate, weight and examination are recorded. Blood tests, ECG, urine screening or more records may be required.

Next step

Agree a plan

If restarting is appropriate, a cautious plan and monitoring schedule are established. Otherwise, Dr Saini explains the safer next step.

Restart consultations are longer, in-person reviews because the clinical picture may have changed during the break. Dr Saini will consider the original diagnosis, previous treatment response and your current health before recommending whether and how medication should be recommenced.

The objective is safe continuity—not simply recreating an old prescription.

Transparent fees

Questions before booking

Restart care FAQs.

Can a restart appointment be done by telehealth?
No. Restart appointments are completed in person at West Pennant Hills because current observations, examination and a fresh safety assessment are required.
How long can I have been off medication?
There is no single interval that guarantees eligibility. The longer the gap, the more likely it is that Dr Saini will need additional records, reassessment or specialist input before medication can be restarted.
What documents should I send?
Send your diagnostic report, previous psychiatrist or paediatrician letters, medication and dose history, evidence of previous prescribing and any relevant recent results. Please send them at least 48 hours before the appointment.
Will I restart at my previous dose?
Not necessarily. The appropriate medicine and dose depend on the length of the break, current health, prior response and safety considerations. A lower starting dose or different plan may be recommended.
Will I receive medication on the day?
Not necessarily. Further records, blood tests, ECG, urine screening, specialist input or NSW prescribing authority may be required first.
What happens after restarting?
Follow-up timing depends on the treatment plan and stability. Once established, ongoing care can move to the continuation pathway, with eligible adults able to use video telehealth for later reviews.
