Rosedale – Proud State Winner in Telstra Best of Business Awards

West Pennant Hills, NSW — 21/10/2024 — Rosedale Medical Practice, a small, community-centred general practice in West Pennant Hills, has been named the NSW State Winner in the Championing Health category of the Telstra Best of Business Awards. This recognition highlights the transformative power of general practice to improve health outcomes for all Australians, made possible by the dedication of the Rosedale team, the support of our patients, and collaboration with our community partners.

A Personal Journey: Family, Equity, and Transformation

For Dr. Jaspreet Saini and his wife Gurleen, co-owners of Rosedale Medical Practice, this achievement is more than just a professional milestone, it’s deeply personal. “As parents of triplet daughters, we want to create the kind of general practice where our girls, and all Australians, can walk in confidently, knowing they will receive world-class care, respect, and dignity at every visit,” said Dr. Saini. “Our vision for Rosedale was born out of this desire for a healthcare system that delivers the same level of care we would want for our own children.”

Dr. Saini’s commitment to healthcare was also shaped by his own experience as a child. After being involved in a serious car accident in India at the age of 10, he witnessed firsthand the stark differences between public and private healthcare. That experience ignited his passion to provide high-quality, equitable care for everyone, regardless of circumstance.

General Practice as a Force for Change

“At Rosedale, we believe general practice has the power to change the health outcomes of all Australians,” Dr. Saini explained. “By focusing on prevention, early intervention, and team-based care, we can shift from reactive medicine to truly proactive healthcare that promotes long-term well-being.”

What sets Rosedale Medical Practice apart from traditional general practices is our philosophy of Care Outside the Box, which goes beyond the confines of the consult room. This approach redefines what it means to deliver primary care by addressing the full spectrum of our patients’ health needs, both medical and social, in a truly proactive, preventive, and comprehensive manner. Our model is rooted in the principles of Patient-Centred Medical Homes, where the focus is not just on treating illness, but on promoting well-being and ensuring continuity of care.

However, despite Australia enjoying some of the best health outcomes globally, there remain stark disparities. For example, only 33% of Australian women receive their recommended cervical screening tests, and while heart disease remains a leading cause of death, women are both underrecognised in heart disease statistics and overrepresented in fatal outcomes. Vulnerable communities continue to face increasing access issues, compounded by a predicted national shortage of general practitioners and a growing reliance on international medical graduates to fill workforce gaps. This, combined with dwindling investment in general practice and increasing out-of-pocket expenses for patients, presents a critical challenge.

A True Team Effort: Recognising Our Staff and Patients

The success of Rosedale Medical Practice is driven by the dedication of its team and the trust of its patients. “This award belongs to our team, whose passion and dedication make a real difference in our patients’ lives every day,” said Dr. Saini. “Their hard work, combined with the loyalty of our patients – many of whom have been with us for generations – has made this recognition possible.”

Dr. Saini also acknowledged the crucial role of WentWest, the Western Sydney Primary Health Network, in supporting Rosedale’s journey. “WentWest has been a vital partner, helping us not only grow but also share our model of care with other practices across the region. Together, we are proving that general practices can lead the way in value-based healthcare.”

Transforming Healthcare through Innovation and Community

Within just six months of taking over Rosedale Medical Practice, the Saini family and their team introduced innovative technology solutions and enhanced the patient care experience. By harnessing the power of data, technology, and team-based care, we ensure that every individual receives tailored support that addresses their unique needs—before, during, and after each consultation.

“This award validates our vision of what healthcare should be,” said Dr. Jaspreet Saini, Principal GP of Rosedale Medical Practice. “We believe that value-based healthcare, where the patient’s long-term health and well-being are prioritised, is the future. Our approach is designed to move away from episodic, reactive care and instead provide proactive solutions that prevent illness, promote healthy living, and ensure ongoing support for chronic conditions. This is not just a service—it’s a commitment to truly improving health outcomes.”

A Nationally-Recognised Community Practice

Rosedale Medical Practice’s recognition as the state winner in the Telstra Best of Business Awards is a testament to the transformative potential of general practice. In addition to this award, Rosedale has earned national recognition with the PenCS National Award for Clinical Excellence in 2022 and the Sustainability in Health Care Award in 2023.

“This award isn’t just a win for Rosedale – it’s a win for every patient, staff member, and supporter who has been part of our journey,” Dr. Saini concluded. “It demonstrates what can be achieved when we come together as a community, with the shared goal of improving health outcomes for all.”

Feeling Overwhelmed? How to Manage Acute Mental Distress — And When to See a GP

Feeling Overwhelmed? How to Manage Acute Mental Distress — And When to See a GP

Acute mental distress can feel frightening, intense, and isolating — especially when it hits without warning. Whether you’re experiencing sudden anxiety, panic, or emotional overwhelm, knowing what steps to take can help you feel safer, more in control, and supported.

At Rosedale Medical Practice in West Pennant Hills, our GPs are here to support you — not just in a crisis, but throughout your mental health journey.

Immediate Steps You Can Take to Help Calm Acute Mental Distress

If you’re in the middle of an episode or supporting someone who is, here are a few grounding steps you can take:

1. Pause and Find a Safe, Quiet Space

If possible, move to a calm, comfortable environment. Focus on slow, deep breathing. Even just 60 seconds of mindful breathing can help interrupt the panic response and begin to reset your nervous system.

2. Use a Mental Health Support App

Apps like Calm, Smiling Mind, or Headspace offer guided meditations, grounding techniques, and breathing exercises that can ease stress in the moment.

3. Call a Mental Health Helpline

Sometimes the most helpful thing is speaking to someone trained to listen. These helplines are available 24/7:

Lifeline: 13 11 14 Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636 Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800

4. Reach Out to a Trusted Friend or Family Member

You don’t have to go through this alone. Letting someone know how you’re feeling can provide relief and connection.

Booking a GP Appointment for Mental Health Support

While immediate relief strategies can help, it’s vital to follow up with professional support. A GP consultation for mental health can provide clarity, next steps, and a safe space to unpack what you’re experiencing.

At Rosedale Medical Practice, caring, experienced GPs will listen without judgment and help you create a personalised mental health care plan.

GP Registrars at Rosedale Medical Practice

GP Registrars at Rosedale Medical Practice

What Is a GP Registrar?
Fully qualified doctors. Expertly supported. Committed to great care.

At Rosedale Medical Practice, some of our doctors are GP Registrars — fully qualified medical doctors who are completing their advanced specialist training in general practice.

They’ve finished medical school and their hospital years, and are now building their skills in community-based, whole-person care. Each Registrar works under the guidance of a nominated senior GP supervisor, with regular case discussions, mentoring, and clinical oversight to support safe, high-quality care.

Registrars usually stay with us for 6 to 12 months during this stage of their training. If your Registrar’s placement comes to an end, we’ll help ensure a smooth handover to another doctor, so your care remains connected.

Why Choose a GP Registrar?

  • More time to talk things through
  • A fresh perspective, backed by experienced guidance
  • A doctor who’s engaged, up to date, and committed to thoughtful care
  • Supervised care, with shared decision-making when needed

You’re always welcome to choose whether you’d like to see a Registrar or one of our senior GPs — just let us know when you book.

Why We Train the Next Generation of GPs

We believe great care takes time, curiousity, and the willingness to keep learning — and that means investing in the future of general practice.

Training GP Registrars is part of our Care Outside the Box® philosophy: helping grow the kind of doctors who listen well, work collaboratively, and put patients at the centre of their care.

Choosing to see a Registrar doesn’t just give you access to longer, relationship-based care — it also helps shape the kind of healthcare we all deserve, now and into the future.

If you’d like to book with one of our GP Registrars or have questions about how this works, we’re happy to talk it through.
