The following resources and fact sheets are designed to give you more information about your Pfizer (Cominarty) COVID-19 vaccine, including expected risks, benefits and side effects.

One of the doctors at Rosedale Medical Practice in West Pennant Hills will also briefly discuss some of this information with you at the time of your vaccine.

Please visit the Australian Government Department of Health website for the most up-to-date information about the COVID-19 vaccinations.

Myocarditis / Pericarditis Risk with mRNA vaccines

A potential rare side effect that is currently being investigated by the TGA is inflammation of the heart muscle called myocarditis. Most cases have been mild and self limiting, and occur in people (mostly males) under 30. The symptoms that could suggest myocarditis or pericarditis are chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations, particularly after the second dose of the Pfizer (Comirnaty) Vaccine. If this occurs please call us (or your regular GP) immediately, or seek medical help after hours.

You should tell us if you have a history of bacterial endocarditis, myocarditis or pericarditis, current acute rheumatic fever, and acute heart failure. More information is available here.

4. Post-Vaccine: Surveillance and Accessing Care

After your vaccine, SmartVax will send you a text (SMS) and questionnaire on days 3, 8 and 42. This text will take you to a survey that asks whether you have experienced any side effects to the vaccine.

Please respond to this so that you can tell us if you have had any side effects like a sore arm, headache, fever, fatigue, chills, muscle pains, joint pains or something else.

This is part of the AusVaxSafety vaccine monitoring and surveillance program and helps to give you and your health team confidence in the vaccine roll-out. More information is available here.
