Get your Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Vaccine (Pfizer) in West Pennant Hills

Pfizer Booster Dose – Existing Patients Only

As of February 20, 2023, eligible Australians can receive an additional booster shot if they have not received a COVID-19 vaccination or infection within the past six months. To protect yourself from severe illness, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommends that high-risk individuals get the booster, including children aged five to 17 with a health condition that places them at risk.

We are excited to offer the latest Pfizer Omicron-specific vaccine booster, including the BA.4-5 subvariants, at Rosedale Medical Practice. This new booster joins the 4 million Omicron-specific bivalent BA.1 vaccines already available in Australia.

All Australians aged 18 and over who have not received a COVID-19 vaccination or infection in the past six months are eligible for the booster, as well as children aged five to 17 with a health condition that puts them at risk of severe illness. The preferred booster options, according to ATAGI, are Omicron-specific mRNA vaccines such as Pfizer BA.1, Pfizer BA.4-5, or Moderna vaccine.

Studies have shown that countries using the latest bivalent vaccines have experienced a significant reduction in infection rates, providing individuals with peace of mind around loved ones.

While COVID-19 vaccines are generally well-tolerated, some people may experience mild side effects such as muscle and joint pain, fever, fatigue, and vomiting. It is rare, but myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle or pericarditis, has been associated with mRNA vaccines, particularly in males under 30.

To receive your booster shot, schedule an appointment with Rosedale Medical Practice. If you have experienced adverse reactions to prior COVID-19 vaccinations, consult with your healthcare provider before getting the booster.

Don’t wait – get your Bivalent COVID-19 Booster Vaccine today to protect yourself and your loved ones from severe illness.

The following resources and fact sheets are designed to give you more information about your Pfizer (Cominarty) COVID-19 vaccine, including expected risks, benefits and side effects.

One of the doctors at Rosedale Medical Practice in West Pennant Hills will also briefly discuss some of this information with you at the time of your vaccine.

Please visit the Australian Government Department of Health website for the most up-to-date information about the COVID-19 vaccinations.

Myocarditis / Pericarditis Risk with mRNA vaccines

A potential rare side effect that is currently being investigated by the TGA is inflammation of the heart muscle called myocarditis. Most cases have been mild and self limiting, and occur in people (mostly males) under 30. The symptoms that could suggest myocarditis or pericarditis are chest pain, shortness of breath and palpitations, particularly after the second dose of the Pfizer (Comirnaty) Vaccine. If this occurs please call us (or your regular GP) immediately, or seek medical help after hours.

You should tell us if you have a history of bacterial endocarditis, myocarditis or pericarditis, current acute rheumatic fever, and acute heart failure. More information is available here.
